Kyre Chenven and Ivano Atzori, a couple passionate about culture and design, have rejuvenated a collection of dilapidated buildings in southern Sardinia into a cultural haven known as Luxi Bia. These structures, originally part of an agrarian community called a 'furriadroxu,' have been transformed to offer visitors a chance to experience the rich history and culture of the island. The journey to acquiring the farmstead was a complex process due to Sardinia's unique hereditary traditions, requiring patience and negotiation with multiple heirs.
The couple relocated from Tuscany to Sardinia in 2014, drawn by the island's ancient history, which dates back to the Stone Age. Sardinia's cultural isolation from the mainland has allowed it to maintain a unique and resilient cultural identity, which the couple seeks to share with visitors. Drawing on their artistic backgrounds—Ms. Chenven as a set designer and Mr. Atzori as a graffiti artist—they aimed to preserve the traditional aspects of the island while offering a refreshing take on its cultural heritage. At Luxi Bia, visitors can engage with Sardinia's local crafts and explore its natural environment.
