Texas May Rename the New York Strip

In an unusual political maneuver, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick of Texas has proposed renaming the popular New York strip steak to the Texas strip. The proposed rebranding aims to credit Texas cattle ranchers, as Texas leads the nation in cattle production. Patrick's announcement, made via a social media post, appeared to carry underlying political tones, citing that 'Liberal New York shouldn’t get the credit for our hard-working ranchers.' Despite the push from Texas authorities, New York steakhouses and meatpackers, like Harry Sinanaj of Ben & Jack’s Steakhouse, have dismissed the idea, calling it 'ridiculous.' The origins of the New York strip name are somewhat unclear, but it has been a staple in steakhouses nationwide for many years, with links to the historic New York-based Delmonico's restaurant, which opened in 1827. New York establishments have expressed no interest in adopting the Texas-proposed name change, demonstrating a cultural and culinary resistance to the idea.
