Founded seven years ago in Kyiv, GORN Ceramics is a testament to resilience and creative defiance amid chaos. Co-founded by Yuriy Myrko and Bogdan Kryvosheya, the studio achieved a significant milestone in 2020 when it presented 'Shadows,' a series of eight clay-and-copper humanoid statues, at the Bouquet Kyiv Stage Festival. These sculptures were initially intended to be displayed for a short period but ended up staying for considerably longer, symbolizing permanence in tumultuous times.
The 'Shadows' sculptures marked a pivotal shift for GORN, which originally specialized in practical ceramics like vases and bowls. This artistic endeavor delved into complex themes such as human relationships, death, and spirituality, reflecting the emotional depth brought on by the ongoing conflict with Russia. GORN Ceramics continues to balance its practical creations with these deeply evocative art pieces, embodying the studio's courageous spirit and adaptability in uncertain times.
