In Sardinia, a Showcase for Craft and Culture Rises From Ruins

Kyre Chenven and Ivano Atzori have brought new life to an abandoned farmstead in southern Sardinia by transforming it into Luxi Bia, a sanctuary for cultural and craft immersion. Taking about five years, the couple managed to buy what remained of these once-inhabited dwellings, typical of a 19th-century furriadroxu—a unique agricultural community of the region. Faced with a complex process involving multiple heirs due to Sardinia's distinctive inheritance traditions, they spent considerable effort convincing family members to sell the properties. The revitalized Luxi Bia offers a glimpse into the richness of Sardinia’s crafts and the natural environment, inviting visitors to explore its deep, isolated history. Chenven and Atzori, who moved from Tuscany to Sardinia in 2014, found themselves drawn to the island's ability to maintain a resistant culture separate from the mainland since its Stone Age origins.
